Artists invited to participate in SCAC juried show

It’s that time of year again! Artists are invited to submit work for the 8th Annual Juried Art Show at the Shelby County Arts Council.

All artists are welcome to submit work for this show. Participating artists can submit up to three works of art for consideration.

Categories include: Painting (acrylic, oil or watercolor), 3D (sculpture or ceramic), photography, drawing and mixed media.

The deadline to enter work is Monday, Sept. 5.

The recipient of the Best in Show award will win a $500 grand prize and an interview article published in Shelby Living magazine.

First-place winners in each art medium category will win a $200 prize and a $50 gift certificate to Falcon Art Supply.

There will also be a Staff Choice winner and Executive Director Choice winner, each will receive a $50 gift certificate to Falcon Art Supply.

This year’s show will be juried by Ted Metz, retired professor of sculpture at the University of Montevallo.

Metz joined the University of Montevallo in 1973 after receiving his MFA from the University of South Carolina.

His public sculptures can be seen on campus at UM, Health South Corporation and numerous other locations.

The entry fee for the show is $75 and includes a one-year Artist Membership to the SCAC.

Artist Membership benefits include: Free entry to the annual December Artist Market, an artist bio on the SCAC website, reserved seating in the Black Box Theater events, 20 percent off framing services at Falcon Art Supply, subscription to our e-newsletter and much more.

The opening reception will be Friday, Sept. 30 from 6-8 p.m. in the Shelby County Arts Council Gallery and is free and open to the public.

Gallery hours are 10 a.m.-5 p.m. This event is sponsored by the Alabama Council on the Arts and Falcon Art Supply.
