PELHAM – Panther Pride was on full display Thursday night, Sept. 22, as crowds stood along Bearden Road during Pelham’s second annual homecoming parade.

The theme of the homecoming parade was “Wipe Out the Warriors” and floats showcased Panther Pride. The parade was led by Pelham High’s marching band and and for the first time it included Riverchase Middle and youth football and cheer students.

The Panthers will face the Thompson Warriors on Sept. 23 at 7 p.m.

“It was bigger than last year,” said Pelham Mayor Gary Waters. “It’s a bigger crowd and more students participating in the parade.”

The parade started at Pelham High and traveled down Bearden Road to Warehouse 31 where students participated in karaoke until 10 p.m. – a tradition that’s about 10 years old, said parade organizer Keri Ross, the co-sponsor of the Student Government Association.

“It’s been hectic and busy but it has been tons of fun,” Ross said.

Ross said she considered the construction project taking place along Bearden Road when deciding the parade route, but felt there was enough viewing space along the road to keep the same route.

Pelham High assistant principal Amanda Wilbanks said including students from the middle and elementary schools is a part of the plan to vertically align the athletic programs at all of the schools and work together. Ross said 29 groups participated.

“Tonight was a step toward that,” Wilbanks said.
