Violet Carline Sims Roper
Columbiana

Violet Carline Sims Roper, age 95, of Columbiana, passed away peacefully Tuesday, Oct. 11, at Columbiana Health and Rehabilitation in Columbiana, and is now home with her Heavenly Father.

Visitation will be from 10-11:30 a.m., Friday, Oct. 14 at Crosscreek Baptist Church in Pelham. The funeral service will be held at 11:30 a.m., Friday, Oct. 14 at the church with Pastor Brandon Hudson officiating. Burial will follow in Fourmile Cemetery. Bolton Funeral Home is directing.

She was born on Sept. 4, 1921 in Fourmile, and was the eldest of seven children born to Carl Thomas Sims and Ina McEwen Sims. Violet grew up in Fourmile and attended Shelby County High School. She married Blenard Harrison Roper in 1943 and they were happily married for 67 years until his death in 2010. Blenard fondly referred to her as his “blooming violet.”

She accepted Christ as her Savior at a young age and was actively involved in every church of which she was a member. She was the matriarch of Crosscreek Baptist Church. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and wonderful cook whose home was always open to friends and family. There was nothing better than Mama’s home-cooked meals! She loved Auburn football, Atlanta Braves baseball, trips with friends and family, and making others smile with her humor and quick wit.

Mrs. Roper is preceded in death by her husband, Blenard Harrison Roper; son, Alan Roper; parents; and sisters, Sarah Sims, Dorothy Adcock, and Bobbie Nell Whitten.

She is survived by her two daughters, Brenn Davis (Douglas) and Joy Willis; six grandchildren, Ty Mask, April Richmond (Matt), Wesley Davis (Jennifer), Zachary Willis (Callie), Taylor Allred (Heath), and Cody Willis; ten great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Ty Mask, Wesley Davis, Zachary Willis, Cody Willis, Eli Mask, Heath Allred, and Calvin Gunn. Darrell Tino will be an honorary pallbearer.

The Pastor at Crosscreek, Brandon Hudson, will officiate and Cathy Lee will deliver a personal message.

The family would like to express their thanks and gratitude to the staff at Columbiana Health and Rehabilitation and New Beacon Hospice for their love and care.

The family requests no flowers. Donations may be made to Crosscreek Baptist Church in her name.
