NORTH SHELBY – The Shelby County Sheriff’s Office along with multiple fire departments closed traffic to the entrance of a North Shelby County apartment complex on Thursday.

Debbie Sumrall, public information officer for SCSO, said she could confirm only that local law enforcement was assisting a federal agency but that more details could be forthcoming.

The Sheriff’s Office posted on social media that at about 10 a.m. Thursday, representatives from SCSO, Shelby County Drug Enforcement Task Force, Birmingham Police Department, Cahaba Valley Fire Department, Hoover Fire Department and North Shelby Fire Departments were “conducting traffic control” in the 900 Block of Shoal Trail Run, which is the main entrance to Madison at Shoal Run apartments.

“This will require law enforcement to block the entrance to Shoal Run Trail which could cause residents in this area to be affected for a short period of time,” the post said. “An area has been designated for displaced residents to wait that will be located at the Shoal Run Trail clubhouse.”

A subsequent post said that as of 1:30 p.m., traffic control operations had been completed and all roads were open.

“The Shelby County Sheriff’s Office wishes to thank all residents and motorists in this area for their cooperation and patience during this time,” the post said.
