The Helena Huskies and Chelsea Hornets met on the gridiron on Oct. 21, with the Hornets getting the best of the Huskies, but off the field, both schools came out winners supporting a great cause.

In the weeks leading up to the football game, the two communities teamed up to faceoff in a friendly competition to benefit breast cancer research and in the end, the two schools raised a combined $7,320.

Both communities sold pink T-shirts for $15 a piece to see which community could raise the most money to support breast cancer research.

All of the proceeds from the T-shirt sale were donated to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation of Alabama and fans and students were encouraged to wear the T-shirts to the game on Oct. 21 that was dubbed a “pink out.”

The pink T-shirt featured a pink breast cancer ribbon wrapped around a football with both team logos on the front, and the back featured the phrase “Tackling breast cancer in 2016…. Funding research… Saving lives,” as well as the Helena and Chelsea school logos.

The Breast Cancer Research Foundation of Alabama was founded in 1996, and since that time has more than $5.8 million to fund research for a cure, according to the foundation.
