HELENA–The Jane B. Holmes public library in Helena celebrated Halloween a few days early on Oct. 27, by hosting a Peanuts themed Halloween party.

The library transformed one of its rooms with decorations to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the beloved animated special, “It’s the Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown,” written by late “Peanuts” creator Charles M. Schulz. This classic holiday special first premiered on Oct. 27, 1966.

The family-friendly event encouraged families and children to come dressed up in costumes and enjoy a variety of fun.

The event featured snacks and candy, a pumpkin patch for families to get photos, a craft station featuring Peanuts coloring sheets, a game station featuring a Peanuts matching game and “It’s the Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown,” was read to all those in attendance.

Jane B. Holmes public library event coordinator Holly Parker helped create the event and said she enjoys planning fun events throughout the year.

“Working at the library I just get to do cool things like this,” said Parker. “Just seeing the kids come out dressed up is special and fun.”

“With so many electronic devices these days, it’s important to give kids an opportunity to take a digital break and visit the library for a fun program,” said Head Librarian Dan Dearing. “We are hoping that events like these will bring in patrons of all ages so they can come and see all that our library has to offer. Libraries like ours aren’t just about books anymore; the Jane B. Holmes Public Library has one of the largest DVD collections in Shelby County, as well as many online resources.”
