COLUMBIANA – Cornerstone Christian’s run came to an end Nov. 4 in the first round of the AISA Class AA playoffs, falling to Clarke Prep, 42-6. The loss ends the Chargers’ season at 8-3.

“I knew last week we were pretty beat up and it showed tonight. We just didn’t have any depth. Take nothing from them, they just flat out whipped us,” CCS Coach Tim Smith said. “I’m proud of my kids. They played with a lot of heart and had a great year. We accomplished a lot of first here. They have nothing to hang their head on … It’s one of those seasons to remember forever.”

Clarke Prep took an 8-0 lead on a touchdown by Trey McConnell and 2-point pass. Gavin Caine later made it 14-0 Gators.

Logan Tucker put Cornerstone on the board with a 65-yard touchdown run in the second quarter to make it 14-6. Tucker finished the game with 72 yards on five carries.

Caine added another touchdown before halftime with Clarke Prep up 21-6.

In the second half, it was all Dylan Thomas, who rushed for three touchdowns for the Gators.

Most of the Chargers’ highlights came on defense, led by 13 tackles from Jahnari Chisolm. Theo Mangos, Patrick Howell and Tucker each had 10 tackles. JoJo Joiner had a 34-yard interception return.
