PELHAM – The Pelham City Council Chamber was packed full on Monday, Nov. 7, as numerous family members and friends were in attendance to witness the newly elected council and mayor get sworn in.

The City Council meeting looked slightly different with Place 5 Councilwoman Mildred Lanier taking her spot in the Council Chambers for the first time, replacing Karyl Rice.

Lanier was sworn in with her mother by her side.

“I’m honored to be able to serve the citizens of Pelham and I am so thankful to have this opportunity,” Lanier said. “I truly appreciate all of the support everyone has given me.”

The re-elected mayor, Gary Waters, and council members – Ron Scott, Beth McMillan, Rick Hayes and Maurice Mercer – were also sworn in.

Waters will be serving his second term as mayor. Hayes, Mercer and McMillan will each be serving their second term on the council. Scott was appointed to the council in 2012 to fill a vacancy and was re-elected to the council.

Waters and the council will serve from 2016-2020.
