James Hubert Shaw, age 86, of Pell City, passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, Nov. 17.

Visitation will be from 1-2 p.m., Monday, Nov. 21 at Union United Methodist Church. The funeral service will follow at 2 p.m., with Bro. Zenus Windsor officiating. Burial will follow in Union Cemetery. Bolton Funeral Home is directing.

Mr. Shaw was born in Westover, in Shelby County, to Velma and Lewis Shaw on Dec. 31, 1929.

Hubert entered the Armed Services on Jan. 6, 1951 and served in Korea for 16 months. He served with honor and was discharged on Dec. 30, 1952. He was given a commendation for the part he played in breaking up a North Korean oil theft ring.

Upon his return from active duty, he resumed his employment with the Pure Oil Company. After many years with the oil company affiliation, Hubert purchased his own gasoline marketing company and retired from the endeavor in 2001.

Hubert and his brothers sang for many years in the Keymasters Gospel Quartet and made many friends throughout the state of Alabama. He had a beautiful baritone voice and was asked to sing for many weddings and funerals during his lifetime.

Mr. Shaw is preceded in death by his parents and all three brothers, Lane, Wendell, and Bill Shaw.

He is survived by his wife, Ruth Shaw; sons, James Gregory Shaw (Sam) and Larry Wayne Shaw; grandsons, Gregory William Shaw (Elise) and Christopher James Shaw (Nicole); and numerous other family and friends.
