Students from Elvin Hill and Calera Elementary schools discussed what they were grateful for during the Thanksgiving season.

Several students mentioned that they were thankful for their families:

“I’m thankful for my father and my mother,” CHS first grader Jackson Currie said.

“I’m grateful for having my family and friends around for Thanksgiving dinner,” EHES fifth grader Kaylynn Hope said.

“I’m grateful to have all of my family and for everyone to be here with us so we can have a lovely feast,” CHS first grader Aaliyah Thomas said.

Other students spoke about their gratitude for basic necessities, including food and shelter:

“I’m grateful that I can have food to eat,” EHES fifth grader Spencer Phillips said.

“I’m thankful for my family, my clothes, my house and my bed,” EHES first grader Aiden Pierce said.

Some students at EHES and CHS said they looked forward to celebrating the holiday:

“I’m grateful for having fun,” CHS first grader Frank Scott said.

“I’m thankful for turkeys. We’re going to have a Thanksgiving party, I think,” CHS first grader Kadyn Mitchell said.

Kaylynn Hope also expressed her gratitude for her school and the opportunities she has there.

“I’m thankful for being here today at school. I’m thankful for being able to have a great education and a great family to support me with my education,” Kaylynn said.

Both schools held special Thanksgiving lunches throughout the week. Students at CHS, EHES and all other Shelby County Schools will be out for Thanksgiving Break from Nov. 21 through 25.
