Thomas Andy Walton, Sr. of Irondale passed away on Saturday, Nov. 19, attended by his loving wife, Ira Sue.

Born one of a set of triplets in Columbiana, on May 2, 1938, Thomas graduated from Shelby County High School and became a member of the first class of male students at the University of Montevallo.

He dedicated his enthusiastic energies to church activities throughout his life. Thomas was ordained a deacon in his twenties at Montevallo First Baptist Church and continued to serve as a deacon in other churches where they lived. He also taught men’s Sunday School classes for many years, as well as lifting his voice from the choir loft.

Thomas never met a stranger, volunteered many hours of hard work wherever he saw a need, and was dedicated to his friends, family and church family.

Thomas was preceded in death by his grandparents, Thomas and Eva Walton and Andrew and Lula Wood; his parents, Reverend Gaston and Annice Mae Walton; his brother, Paul Walton; and grandson, Thomas Andy Walton III.

He is survived by his wife, Ira Sue; children, Thomas Andy Walton, Jr. and Melanie Balch; and grandchildren, Noah and Seth Walton and Gabrielle and Reagan Balch.

Services were held at Leeds First Baptist Church and burial at Forest Crest Cemetery.
