Troopers identify victims in fatal Calera wreck

CALERA – Two people were killed in a two-vehicle crash involving a vehicle traveling the wrong way on Interstate 65 in Calera during the early morning hours of Nov. 25, according to Alabama State Troopers.

Kizzy D. Haynes, 39, of Maylene was killed when the 2005 Mercedes E320 she was driving collided head-on with a 2008 KIA Sedona driven by Larry Albert Hampton, 51, of Calera. Both drivers were pronounced dead at the scene.

“The preliminary investigation indicates that Haynes was driving the wrong way on Interstate 65 at the time of the crash,” read a State Troopers release.

The wreck happened at about 4:10 a.m. near mile marker 228, and troopers worked until about 7:30 a.m. to clear the scene and return traffic flow to normal.

The wreck remains under State Trooper investigation.
