HELENA–Led behind a record-setting performance by Helena forward Jon Brown and with a spot in the championship game of the Jefferson–Shelby Hoops Classic on the line, the Huskies took care of business again by defeating Minor 57-51 in the semifinals on Thursday, Jan. 5.

Helena has turned heads the past few days after defeating Clay-Chalkville and Pleasant Grove in the first two rounds of the tournament and the Huskies once again showed they have no signs of slowing down after defeating the Tigers to advance to the title game.

Helena and Minor played a tight first quarter as the Huskies held a slight edge at the end of the first eight minutes leading 13-10.

The Huskies did most of its damage in the second quarter going on a 19-7 run and never looked back to hold a 32-17 lead at the half.

Minor cut the Huskies lead to single-digits in the second half but the Tigers had no answer for Brown on the offensive end of the floor.

Brown, who already leads the Huskies in points per game, set a school record against Minor finishing with 39 points while collecting 15 rebounds. Brown continues to show he is one of the most valuable players in all of Class 6A and continues to impress game in and game out.

After downing Minor 57-51, Helena as a team has now won six games in a row and won 15 of their past 16 games while improving their overall record to 18-4.

Unfortunately, inclement winter weather caused a cancellation of the championship game of the Jefferson-Shelby Hoops Classic that was supposed to be played the night of Jan. 6.

However, officials with the tournament said the championship game would be rescheduled at a later date where the Huskies will take on Shades Valley.

Helena will enter area play the week of Jan. 9 riding a wave of momentum and a chance to impress even further.
