Georgene McCauley Watson, age 96, of Montevallo passed away in her home on Jan. 5.

Georgene was involved in many civic affairs in Montevallo. She served as secretary/treasurer of the Montevallo Recreation Board and the Montevallo Golf Club. She also served as president of the Montevallo Study Club and Garden Club.

Georgene was a great storyteller. She entertained her friends and family with vivid recollections of her childhood and her adventures during the war. She had a wry wit and keen intelligence. Later in life she was blinded by macular degeneration but that did not hinder her free spirit and independence. She was an inspiration to her family and friends.

She is survived by her daughter, Jane Watson Bullock, and three grandchildren, Thomas Pope Bullock, Ann Bullock and Will Bullock and his wife Jessica.

Graveside services will be held at the Montevallo Cemetery on Monday, Jan. 9 at 11 a.m. Rev. Daniel Stallings will conduct the services.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to University Baptist Church in Montevallo.
