“Forgotten Alabama” photographer Glenn Wills discussed his work and gave a presentation at the Albert L. Scott Library on Sunday, Jan. 22 at 2 p.m.

Wills presentation featured photographs that he took of abandoned objects and places from around the state of Alabama.

Wills said he began taking photographs of old buildings, bridges and more after he came across an abandoned car lot without his camera. After that, Wills resolved to take his camera with him, everywhere he went.

“In 2012, I decided to make this project a reality,” Wills said.

Wills said he only takes photographs at certain times during the year.

“I only shoot in the winter because there’s no kudzu and leaves. Plus, it’s dark and gloomy,” Wills said.

Wills also utilized Google Maps to locate abandoned places, and marked the sites he was interested in.

“Technology has made things a lot easier,” Wills said.

Wills expressed his gratitude to the Albert L. Scott Library and their staff for hosting his presentation. According to Wills,

“This is the very first library I’ve ever [presented at]. I got my feet wet here,” Wills said.

Copies of “Forgotten Alabama” and his new photography book, “More Forgotten Alabama,” were available for purchase.

Due to the threat of severe weather, Wills is also scheduled to speak at the Albert L. Scott Library for a second time on Sunday, May 21, to allow more people to attend.

“Hopefully, we won’t have to worry about tornadoes then,” Wills said.
