NORTH SHELBY – To celebrate “Take Your Child to the Library Day” on Saturday, Feb. 4, the North Shelby Library will host a free performance by the Birmingham Children’s Theatre.

The performance begins at 10:30 a.m. and is free to the public, with no library registration required. The Birmingham Children’s Theatre, one of the nation’s oldest and largest professional theater companies for young audiences, will give a performance of their latest Wee Folks production entitled “Wake Up Brother Bear.”

Perfect for children up to age 10, this show allows kids to interact as Brother and Sister Bear experience a year full of glorious seasons. In addition to the free performance, the library will recognize children who have finished the early literacy program “1,000 Books Before Kindergarten” in a brief ceremony after the show.

Newcomers to the program will be awarded a prize for signing up.

“1,000 Books Before Kindergarten” encourages parents and caregivers to read with their children from birth. Contact Savannah Kitchens for more information at NSChildrensLibrarian@shelbycounty-al.org or 439-5504.
