Eleanor Face Pigan
Maylene

Eleanor Face Pigan, age 88, of Maylene, passed away peacefully on Sunday, Feb. 12, at home with her family.

She was born in Stephentown, New York to George Adolphus and Anna Dymond Face. She was raised in East Nassau, New York, the eldest of seven children. Elly married her sweetheart, Ed Pigan, and they remained together in love for 60 years and renewed their vows in the presence of God and family, not just once, but four times.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ed; her parents; sister, Wilma Barthel; and brothers, George Face, Jr. and Chuck Face.

Left to treasure her memory are her children, Maryann Pigan Nicolaou (Vassili) of Alabaster, Edward A. Pigan, Jr. (Phyllis) of Murrysville, Pennsylvania, and Andrew Pigan, George Pigan and Matthew Pigan (Terri), all of Maylene; 10 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; sisters, Evelyn Ableman of Clanton and May Powley of New Smyrna, Florida; and brother, Wayne Face of East Nassau, New York.

Eleanor dedicated her professional life to education and her personal life to God and family. She was a sweet, kind, and gentle person: a true friend, a great listener and encourager who brought out the best in everyone. She will be missed.

The family will receive friends Thursday, Feb. 16 from 7-8 p.m. and on Friday, Feb. 17 from 10-11 a.m. at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church in Montevallo. Her funeral mass will begin at 11 a.m. at the church, with Father Ray Dunmyer to officiate. Burial will follow at Montevallo City Cemetery.

Memorial donations may be made in Eleanor’s name to the American Cancer Society or Alzheimer’s Association.
