HOOVER – Oak Mountain’s top-ranked boys soccer team cruised past rival Spain Park on March 8, 6-1, for an important area win.

Visting OMHS struck first in the game that was postponed from March 7 because of inclement weather, when a shot ricocheted off junior Clay Holstad.

Spain Park tied the score at 1-all after the Jaguars’ goalkeeper punted the ball long and it was mishandled by the Oak Mountain center backs, but most of the highlights the rest of the way belonged to the Eagles.

Oak Mountain took the lead on a penalty kick after a handball in the box by Spain Park.

Then, still in the first period, OMHS made it 3-1 on a header by Chad Jeter.

In the second period, Caleb Van Geffen headed the ball in off a cross to make it 4-1, and then Jackson Murphy hammered it home off a rebound to increase the lead to 5-1.

The scoring was concluded by Murphy.

Oak Mountain (4-1-1) is scheduled to host Parkview on Friday, March 10, and then compete in the Birmingham Metro Soccer Tournament on Monday, March 13.

Spain Park, meanwhile, will host Norcross High School on Saturday, March 11, and Hoover High School on March 13.
