ALABASTER – Several Alabaster Board of Education employees earned praise for everything from serving special-needs students to keeping the school facilities in top-notch condition during a March 13 meeting.

During the meeting, School Board members honored each school’s Support Personnel of the Year winner, and named the school system’s counselor, bus driver, child nutrition program and overall support person of the year. Each winner received certificates from School Board members and Alabaster School Superintendent Dr. Wayne Vickers, and enjoyed a reception in their honor before the meeting.

“Thank you to everyone who was recognized here tonight,” said School Board President Adam Moseley. “You do make a huge difference in the lives of our children.”

“Your principals and supervisors probably appreciate you more than anyone else in the building,” School Board member Linda Church added.

The following Alabaster City Schools employees were named Support Personnel of the Year winners by their peers at each school:

 

-Thompson High School: Student services assistant Lynn Hicks

-Thompson Middle School: Student office employee Terry Blankenship

-Thompson Sixth Grade Center: Paraprofessional Catherine Jetzel

-Thompson Intermediate School: Custodian Antonio Kelley

-Meadow View Elementary School: STEAM Lab employee Kip Mask

-Creek View Elementary School: Custodian Wayne Ward

 

The following employees also earned districtwide honors:

 

-Counselor of the Year: THS counselor Traci McGee

-Bus Driver of the Year: Michelle Oglesby

-Child Nutrition Program Person of the Year: MVES employee Laura Hamrick

-Overall Support Person of the Year: Kip Mask

 

“I want to thank all of our support employees and the schools the represent,” Vickers said. “It’s certainly wonderful to earn this recognition.”
