HOOVER – Hoover residents soon will have a chance to team up to combat cancer during an upcoming event at Spain Park High School.

Spain Park High School is hosting a fundraiser with Hoover High School for the American Cancer Society on April 28. The Relay for Life fundraiser will be held on the school’s football field from 4 p.m.-11:00 p.m.  General admission is $2. Both schools will join together for Relay for Life-Hoover City, kicking off the first time the combined group has held the event at Spain Park.

The event’s sponsor is Spain Park High School’s teacher and registered nurse, Jennifer Wilson; who shares a personal cancer awareness story of her own.

“I enjoy promoting the message that Relay for Life and the American Cancer society gives”, said Wilson. “Personally, my mother overcame breast cancer recently, and organizations that give high school students the opportunity to help fund research into these illnesses that affected my mother are worth going the extra mile. The passion and persistence that these high school students show for this organization really inspire me to sponsor.”

This event will be an evening filled with live music, food, games and special activities filled with celebration; but most importantly, a ceremony honoring cancer survivors and their families.

T-shirts for the event are available for pre-order at Spain Park High School and are $10. Please contact Jennifer Wilson to place orders.

To attend the event, RSVP online at Relayforlife.org/spainparkal.
