THS dance team, majorettes end successful seasons

ALABASTER – Two groups of Thompson High School performers recently wrapped up championship seasons, and earned plenty of praise from the city’s Board of Education during an April 10 meeting.

School Board members presented certificates of recognition to members of the THS majorettes and Warriorettes dance team during the “Great things happening in our schools” portion of the meeting, and praised the girls for their myriad accomplishments during the recent competition season. Both teams are sponsored by Zandra Morris.

This season, the Warriorettes earned first place in the kick category, second place in the pom category, second place in the open category and the technique award during the American All-Stars Southeast Regional Championship. Kelly Reynolds, Emma Herron and Tori King earned first, second and third place, respectively, in the high school solo category of the competition.

At the Universal Dance Association Alabama State and Regional Championship, the Warriorettes earned second place in the kick and pom categories, Tori King and Emma Herron earned seventh and ninth place, respectively, in the teen solo category and Kelly Reynolds, Chrislyn Walker and Hannah O’Brien earned second, seventh and eighth place, respectively in the senior solo category.

At the National Baton Twirling Association’s Alabama State Championship, the team won first place in the pom, dance and senior categories.

The THS majorettes also earned many awards this season.

At the American All Stars Southeast Regional Championship, the team won first place in the auxiliary category and the choreography award. At the Twirl Mania International Championship at Disney, the team won first place in the high school classic category and Gretchen Moore won first place in the open senior solo category.

At the Amateur Athletic Union Southeast Regional Twirling Championship, the team won first place in the AAU high school majorette and open high school majorette categories, and Emma Blaising earned second place in the AAU senior solo category and first place in the open senior solo category.

At the National Baton Twirling Association State Championship, the team won first place in the state high school majorette, open high school majorette, state high school halftime twirl and open high school halftime twirl categories. Emma Blaising earned first place in the state solo show twirl category.
