Ramona’s life as a wife, mother, Nana, and friend write the story of love. Ramona was born in Hamilton, on May 4, 1930. She was reared there and in Birmingham with her mother, father, three brothers, and two sisters. This was the beginning of her family foundation. In September 1954, Ramona married James B. Hartsfield and started her family of two daughters, Jan and Terri in the Lester’s Chapel community.

Ramona’s talents of sewing, doll making, and canning fresh vegetables only tell part of her story. Ramona retired from the Alabama School for the Blind where she loved and nurtured blind and visually impaired students. Her commitment and unconditional love reached new heights with the birth of each grandchild and great-grandchild. We all share many memories of being part of her story and we are able to call her home our home.

Today, Ramona says goodbye to her family and friends with the anticipation of seeing those that have gone before. We will see her again. She will call our name and know our face.
