PELHAM – Pelham Ridge Elementary is hosting its first Color the Ridge Run on Saturday, April 29, at Fun Go Holler Park.

The color run will include a 5K and a 1-mile fun run, said Pelham Ridge physical education teacher Tammy Causey.

“This isn’t just for our school and parents, it’s for anyone in the area who wants to participate,” Causey said.

Registration for the 5K begins at 7 a.m. on April 29, and the race begins at 8 a.m. Registration for the 1-mile fun run will begin at 9 a.m. with the race starting at 10 a.m. The 5K costs $25 and the fun run costs $15.

Causey said a portion of the proceeds from the event will go to the American Heart Association and the rest will benefit the school.

“As a school, we’re promoting a healthy lifestyle and we wanted to donate to a charity that we feel has the same values,” Causey said. “We connect lessons about healthy lifestyles to our P.E. curriculum and we teach life long healthy habits.”

Heart South will one of the vendors at the event. They’ll be offering free blood pressure checks. Other vendors include Kona Ice and Holy Cow Ice Cream Truck.

“We want this to become an annual event for our school and we hope to expand it in the years to come,” Causey said.

Registration forms for the color run can be found at Vis.pelhamcityschools.org under the Spotlight column. For more information contact Causey at tlcausey@pelhamcityschools.org.
