INDIAN SPRINGS –Indian Springs resident Mary Ann McDougal held a “flea” market fundraiser, from 7 a.m. to noon on Saturday, April 15 at her home in Indian Springs.

According to a press release from For the Animals, an organization founded by McDougal, the “flea” market served as a fundraiser for the Shelby Humane Society and other animal shelters in the state.

“Animals are my heart and my passion, and I am thrilled to be able to provide some much needed support to the very places that house them until they find their forever homes,” McDougal said.

McDougal said the “flea” market was one of several efforts she has made for animals through her platform as the current Miss Coastal Alabama. She plans to share her platform at the 2017 Miss Alabama Pageant in June.

McDougal also serves as the president of Auburn University’s Pre-Veterinary Medical Association and works Auburn’s Wilford and Kate Bailey Small Animal Teaching Hospital

“The work I do is more than just a platform. It is my future and what I’m committing my life to. I have a vision and a message that will, hopefully, resonate with many: a message that will change for the better the way our animals are treated,” McDougal said.
