CHELSEA -Graduating Chelsea High School seniors celebrated their Honors Day and Senior Walk on Tuesday, May 16.

“What we try to do is recognize the achievements of our graduating class each year. We include academic honors, athletic honors and service honors,” CHHS Principal Wayne Trucks said. “It’s a neat way to celebrate the graduating class one last time.”

According to Trucks, all 278 graduates wore their caps and gowns and paraded through Mt. Laurel Elementary, Forest Oaks Elementary and Chelsea Park Elementary Schools during the Senior Walk.

“Since most of our kids went to those schools for elementary school, we thought it would be neat for them to kind of have one last memory of the school zone,” Trucks said.

While he is proud of all students who have or will graduate from CHHS, Trucks said the class of 2017 holds a special place in his heart.

“I’m going to miss these kids for a variety of reasons. This was the group that started with me during my first year as principal,” Trucks said. “This is the ‘snowmageddon’ group, it happened when they were ninth graders. We had over 250 of us stuck at the school that night. It’s been a great group.”

“It’s a great day to be a hornet,” Trucks added.
