CHELSEA – A six-vehicle wreck on U.S. 280 in Chelsea the morning of Tuesday, May 23, closed one lane of westbound traffic.

The wreck occurred at about 8 a.m. near the intersection of U.S. 280 and Dunnavant Valley Road (Shelby County 41), according to the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office.

SCSO deputies and Alabama State Troopers were reported as being on the scene at about 8:30 a.m. The lane was reopened at approximately 9 a.m.

Motorists are asked to seek alternate routes and to avoid this area due to major traffic congestion, according to the SCSO release.

Also, due to severe weather conditions, all roadways should be travelled with caution as slower speeds and heavy traffic are to be expected, according to SCSO.
