INDIAN SPRINGS VILLAGE – Camp Indian Springs will soon convene on the campus of Indian Springs School.

The camp is available for children ages 5-13, and begins on June 5, encompassing nine weeks.

“This is our third camp at the Indian Springs School campus,” assistant camp director Danny Spencer said. “We were formerly the Spain Park Camp.”

Spencer has been with the camping program for the past 10 years.

“Parents can choose as many weeks at Indian Springs as they wish for participation,” Spencer said. “We don’t require nine weeks, though some kids are with us all summer.”

Spencer said most campers come from the Shelby County area, but the camp population has been diverse with campers from Clanton, Moody and other locales.

“Last year we had 426 different campers and averaged about 170 each week,” Spencer said.

The camp will have a different weekly theme, including “Spy Kids,” “Welcome to the Jungle,” “Carnival” and “Cowboys and Aliens.”

Campers will participate in many activities such as hiking, arts and crafts, gardening and indoor and outdoor games.

Weekly field trips include such locations at Game Zone, Treetop Family Adventure, The McWane Science Center and Chuck E. Cheese’s for the younger campers.

Morning camp begins at 6:30 a.m. for parents who need to drop off their children before start of camp at 8:15, and extended camp is available from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m.

Registration can be done online at the camp website, or on the first day of camp. Spencer said it’s better for parents to register their campers ahead of the first day of camp.

“We’ll have another open house on June 3, and we invite parents to come and see what we offer,” Spencer said. “They can register at that time, too.”
