HIS fifth graders receive end of the year awards

HELENA–Helena Intermediate fifth grade students were all smiles the morning of Wednesday, May 24, as the school cafeteria was packed with teachers, administrators, parents and family members to witness an hour-long awards presentation honoring the graduating fifth grade class.

A variety of awards were given to the fifth graders to commemorate their hard work for the 2016-17 school year. HIS students arrived at the awards ceremony wearing Class of 2024 T-shirts.

The awards given included perfect attendance, exemplary attendance, character awards based on the schools six pillars of character, awards for the best patriotic essay, young voices awards, battle of the books team awards, art awards, typing team awards and presidential awards.

Helena Intermediate students cheered and shouted for classmates as the names were read and they made their way to the stage to receive the different certificates.

Parents took photos and applauded as HIS assistant principals Haley Franks and Holley Laney, as well as other faculty members, called out the student’s names.

Student groups recognized included the HIS Student Council, the Gamers Club, Day Starters, Helena Harmonies and the Helena Heroes.

“Our motto for the school year as many of you know was ‘Be the Difference’ and we want you to take that statement and use it as a life motto as you move on and go to sixth grade and beyond,” Laney said.

The awards ceremony concluded with a fifth grade highlight video that included animation of HIS teachers and faculty members as cartoons dancing that resulted in many laughs. The video also included highlights of the year showing the different work students completed and what their favorite things of the school year were.

The last day of the school year is Thursday, May 25.
