PELHAM – South City Theatre’s youth division, Acting Up, will kick off Aug. 21 with acting workshops and classes being offered for children ages 1-18.

South City is offering five classes – Theatre Tots Jr., Theatre Tots, Bridge to Workshop, Workshop Jr. and Workshop – that will teach younger children the basics of theater and give older children an opportunity to participate in a production.

“The goal of these workshops is to guide young actors through the entire production experience, including the thrill of a curtain call,” South City Theatre’s website states.

The Bridge to Workshop, Workshop Jr. and Workshop classes will each culminate in a production performed by students. The workshops begin in August and will continue until the end of fall.

The Theatre Tots Jr. and Theatre Tots classes cost $125; Bridge to Workshop costs $150; Workshop Jr. costs $175; and Workshop costs $250. Parents who signup their children for classes before Aug. 1 will receive a $25 discount off tuition per student.

Private instruction, audition prep and acting and music lessons are also available to students. Ten 30-minute private sessions cost $250.

South City Theatre’s new Children’s Programming Director Emily Hoppe will teach the majority of the classes, but South City is looking for another instructor to help teach classes. Classes will be held at South City Theatre, which is located at 2969 Pelham Parkway.
