PELHAM – On Monday, July 24, the Shelby County Coroner’s Office identified the man who drowned at Oak Mountain State Park on Sunday, July 23, as 28-year-old Dunterious Jackson, of Ensley.

The drowning happened at the OMSP beach.

Pelham Fire Department’s dive team recovered Jackson’s body. Fire Chief Tim Honeycutt said the department received the call at 7 p.m.

“From the time that we were dispatched it took 45 minutes to find the body,” Honeycutt said. “The first diver we put in the water found him in 17 minutes.”

This is the first drowning at OMSP this year.

“I just want to remind people to be careful and conscious of their surroundings, especially in places like Oak Mountain State Park where there are no lifeguards on duty,” Honeycutt said. “Look out for each other and keep safety as a priority.”
