NORTH SHELBY – Oak Mountain athletes will feel like Olympians at the first Eagle Day sports festival on Saturday, Aug. 19.

The event, which for about 10 years has been held as a fish fry, this year will feature “Opening Ceremonies,” with each Oak Mountain athletic team—from varsity all the way to youth sports and including cheer/dance teams and the Spirit of Cahaba Marching Band—being announced as they walk around the track at Heardmont Park to cheers from attendees.

“We wanted it to be an all-inclusive community event,” Oak Mountain High School Principal Kristi Sayers said.

Eagle Day, which serves as a fundraiser for the OMHS Athletic Booster Club, will be held from 3-9 p.m.

“Your support of this event allows the OMHSAB to provide funding for both on campus facilities and those at Heardmont Stadium,” read an announcement at OakMountainAthletics.org. “It also allows the OMHSAB to assist the needs of various OMHS athletic teams and coaches in providing our athletes with the greatest opportunity for them to be successful.”

Tickets cost $15 and include all activities and a chicken finger meal from event sponsor Zaxby’s. The meals will be served from 4-7:30 p.m.

There will inflatables, games and other activities.

To purchase tickets, visit OakMountainAthletics.com and look for the “Sports Festival Order Form” link under the “Forms” tab, ask a coach or call the school at 682-5200.
