One dead after multiple wrecks on Aug. 11

Officers from the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office and the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency responded to three different wrecks that took place on U.S. 280 and south of Wilsonville on the morning of Friday, Aug. 11.

Deputies from the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office responded to a three-vehicle accident on the intersection of 280 and Meadowlark Drive. There were no reported deaths or injuries.

ALEA troopers worked another wreck on 280, which involved two vehicles. The wreck occurred on the intersection of 280 and Dunnavant Valley Road.

ALEA troopers also responded to an accident on Alabama 25, slightly south of Wilsonville city limits. According to ALEA Senior Trooper Chuck Daniel, the wreck involved an overturned 2016 Chevrolet Corvette. Troopers confirmed that the vehicle had one occupant, who was pronounced dead at the scene.

The victim was later identified as 63-year-old Terry Harlan Gallups of Columbiana. According to a release from ALEA, Gallups was not wearing a seatbelt before he was ejected from the vehicle.

ALEA is currently investigating the accident.
