STERRETT – The Shelby County Sheriff’s Office has released the identity of a man who was shot and killed in an Aug. 12 shooting in Sterrett.

The shooting happened at about 3:20 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 12 in the 300 block of Shelby County 437, according to the SCSO.

When deputies arrived on the scene, they found 30-year-old Samuel Julius Nave unresponsive and lying on the ground outside the home and quickly discovered he had been shot. Medical rescue personnel attempted to revive the Nave, but were unsuccessful and he was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Deputies and investigators interviewed two other adults who were at the home: Another male and a female who lived there with Nave, and detained the male for further questioning.

SCSO investigators said they believed the shooting was the result of an ongoing domestic dispute between Nave and the female resident.

“At some point, Nave threatened the other male subject with a weapon, which led to the shooting. After interviewing all of the witnesses, and the subject who shot Mr. Nave, and reviewing all of the evidence, the subject was released pending further investigation including an autopsy and a thorough review by the Shelby County District Attorney’s Office,” read an SCSO statement. “Criminal charges may still be pursued, but the subject who shot Nave has not been charged at this time.”
