Pelham man, 84, killed in Hoover crash

HOOVER – A two-vehicle wreck on South Shades Crest Road in Hoover has claimed the life of an elderly Pelham man, according to the Hoover Police Department.

The wreck happened at 3:14 p.m. near the intersection of South Shades Crest Road and Eden Ridge Drive when a 2000 Ford Crown Victoria traveling west on South Shades Crest collided head-on with a 2006 Honda Odyssey traveling east, according to Hoover police.

The driver of the Crown Victoria, an 84-year-old Pelham man, was transported to UAB, where he was pronounced dead at 6:45 p.m.

The driver of the Honda Odyssey was transported to UAB-West Freestanding Emergency Room, where she was treated and released.

As of Aug. 13, the HPD was working to determine the cause of the crash, and the victim’s name had not yet been released pending notification of his family.
