Local organizations helping Harvey survivors

During the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey, many local nonprofits, schools, churches, municipal agencies and other groups are offering residents of Shelby County and the surrounding areas many opportunities to send aid to survivors of Hurricane Harvey, which made landfall in late August. The following organizations are gathering donations:

 

Alabaster:

–Siluria Baptist Church is partnering with the Alabama Baptist State Board of Missions to take up offerings for survivors.

–Classic Nail Spa is hosting a donation raffle for survivors.

–Cultivate Church is taking monetary donations online at Cultivatechurch.tv.

–Chubbfather’s is collecting diapers, water bottles, canned food and canned pet food.

 

Chelsea:

–Chelsea Fire and Rescue and Chelsea Church of God are partnering to take up bottled water, toiletries, baby supplies and non-perishable food until Sept. 16.

–The Chelsea High School PTO is taking up canned goods.

–St. Catherine’s Episcopal Church Rev. Eric Mancil is encouraging community members to donate through Episcopal Relief and Development.

–Coosa Pines FCU is taking up donations for the Salvation Army and Samaritan’s Purse.

 

Columbiana:

–Columbiana Main Street is taking up non-perishable food items, canned goods, powdered formula, hygiene products, trash bags, bottled water and cleaning supplies. The drop off site is located at 104 South Main Street.

–The Shelby County Humane Society is encouraging residents to make monetary donations to the Houston SPCA.

 

Helena:

–Helena Cumberland Presbyterian Church is taking donations through Sept. 27.

–For its homecoming service campaign, Helena High School is encouraging students to donate school supplies.

–Beef O’Brady’s is collecting monetary donations to send to the American Red Cross on Sept. 8.

 

Montevallo:

–Fred’s, Huddle House, L& S Small Engine, Lucky’s Foodland, Montevallo Drug, Montevallo Police and Fire Departments, Pic n’ Sav and Smitherman’s Pharmacy are teaming up to collect baby diapers and wipes.

 

North Shelby:

–The Cahaba Valley and North Shelby Fire Departments are taking up travel sized toiletries, clothing in children and adult sizes, packages of socks and underwear, baby items, diapers, water, blankets, new pillows, cleaning supplies including dust masks, toiler paper, paper towels and feminine hygiene products, first aid supplies pet food, small toys, crayons, coloring books and school supplies.

 

Pelham:

–The Pelham High School Future Business Leaders of America is collecting cleaning wipes, dust masks, latex gloves, trash bags and cleaning sponges throughout September.

–The Pelham High School Volleyball Team is collecting new t-shirts for survivors.

–The Pelham Fire Department is taking donations of toiletries, canned food, water, baby supplies, pet food and powdered milk at all of its stations.

–Brass Monkey Outfitters is taking up donations of toiletries, baby diapers, hygiene products and water throughout the month of September.

–Heart of Dixie Harley Davidson is taking donations of water, baby items, non-perishable foods, can openers, first aid items, personal hygiene products, heavy duty garbage bags, insect repellant and work gloves until Sept. 31.
