FROM STAFF REPORTS

CHELSEA – A railroad crossing on a heavily traveled road in Chelsea will be closed for a little more than a day to allow the CSX company to complete repairs, according to the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office.

The crossing on Shelby County 47 in front of Chelsea City Hall will be closed from 7 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 9, until 10 a.m. on Sunday, Sept. 10, while the company completes the repairs.

Shelby County 47 serves as a major thoroughfare for many residents in Chelsea and Columbiana, as the roadway connects portions of the two cities with U.S. 280. Drivers traveling on Shelby County 47 toward U.S. 280 can use Liberty Road next to Liberty Baptist Church, and then turn left onto Shelby County 433 to connect with U.S. 280 near the Chelsea Publix shopping center.
