Pelham plans to move forward with buying 240 acres of land west of Interstate 65 for $3.25 million.

During a special-called council meeting on Sept. 26, council members unanimously voted to approve a first-reading vote of the land purchase.

It is unclear what the council plans to use the property for in the future, but council member Ron Scott said during the meeting he thought the move was a positive one for the city.

“I think we will see some really interesting and amazing things,” Scott said. “I am glad to be a part of this body. We don’t do things that are simply laid out to be grandiose. We think through things and we always have.”

The council plans to finalize the vote for the property at the upcoming Oct. 2 council meeting.

According to the resolution, the city plans to enter a contract between KRA Real Estate LLC for the property “west of Interstate 65.”

The property is located off of I-65 Exit 242.

In other news, the council unanimously voted to reject all bids received and opened on Aug. 22 for wireless cabling infrastructure at the Pelham Recreation Center and Civic Ice Complex and Ice Arena.

Council President Rick Hayes told council members there were some issues related to the bid, and the most logical thing to do was to reject all bids.

Prior to adjourning the meeting, council members met in executive session to discuss matters of trade or commerce.
