Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Alabama is warning locals to be wary of fraudulent phone calls claiming to be from the company and seeking personal information.

The scam is targeting victims across the state and country, according to the company.

The callers claim to be BC/BS employees, and come from different numbers from across the nation and in Canada.

“The perpetrator may use various tactics to obtain or verify an individual’s personal information,” read a statement from the organization.

Blue Cross and Blue Shield does not make outgoing calls to verify or update members’ personal information, according to the company.

“We encourage the public to remain vigilant, protect their personal information and guard against providing personal information during calls that claim to be from Blue Cross,” read the statement.
