HELENA–The Helena High School theater department has been hard at work the last several months preparing for an upcoming play happening at the end of October.

HHS theater teacher Jefferson Casey has encouraged everyone to come out and see the students perform the play, “The Curious Savage” by John Patrick.

The performances will be held on Oct. 26 and 28 at 6:30 p.m., as well as Oct. 29 at 3 p.m. at Helena High School.

The play is about a “successful” moneyed family committing their stepmother into an institution around 1950 for trying to start a memorial fund to give away all of their money. In return, she steals $10 million in bonds as a bargaining chip to get out.

Tickets to the show are $8 and parking will be available on the cafeteria side of HHS.

The following weekend, HHS will also play host to the District 6 Trumbauer Festival by the Alabama Conference of Theaters. There will be around 600 theater students at Helena that weekend performing in various categories to qualify to go to the state level at UNA in December.

Lastly, Casey mentioned a save the date for Feb. 8-11, 2018 as HHS will be performing the musical “Annie.”
