PELHAM – Local gift shop and home décor store Cottage of Serendipity celebrated the grand opening of its new location during a ribbon cutting ceremony on the afternoon of Thursday, Oct. 12.

According to owners Cynthia and Mitch Elmore, Cottage of Serendipity had been located at Canyon Park Circle in Pelham for about three years before they decided to move to 2805 Pelham Parkway.

“We wanted to move to a more visible and convenient location,” Cynthia Elmore said.

“Where we were was always a temporary location,” she continued. “The former owner of this property came in (the old location) one day and told us she was selling. We feel like it is a God thing that we ended up here.”

Since Cottage of Serendipity moved to Pelham Parkway, the Elmores said more people have stopped there to shop or have a look around.

Because of its new location, Greater Shelby County Chamber of Commerce Community Director Keyla Handley said she anticipates that Cottage of Serendipity will be able to offer more unique items to more people.

“I’m super excited about them being here. If you’re looking for something unique that you wouldn’t find at any other stores, this is the place for you to shop,” Handley said.

Pelham Mayor Gary Waters said he was glad to see a local business advance.

“Serendipity.  A fortunate happenstance is what I hear it means,” Waters said. “I’m sure that this was not unplanned, but we’re glad you’re here.”

Mitch Elmore said he and Cynthia are glad to have moved and look forward to doing business on Pelham Parkway.

“This is a great opportunity. We’re excited about being a part of the Pelham business community,” he said. “I think we’re going to be successful here.”
