HOOVER – Work is underway at the site of a new Covenant Classical Schools location in the Greystone area.

The Christian school and daycare facility will be located near the intersection of U.S. 280 and Alabama 119 and will be the fifth CCS location in the Birmingham area.

The 22,000-square-foot facility will house 18 classrooms for children ages six weeks through kindergarten.

CCS Spokeswoman Tracy LaBreche said TurnerBatson Architects and Murray Building Company will produce a facility with a different design than other locations.

“The design of this building is going to be awesome,” LaBreche said. “I love all of our locations and what we’ve done, and this is just kind of a twist on that.”

One striking feature of the building will be the open lobby that welcomes children and parents.

Other features will include an infant courtyard, HD camera and security system, secured entry/exit systems, splash pad, four age appropriate outdoor play areas along with a covered outdoor play area, rubber mulch equipped playgrounds, soccer field and commercial grade kitchen.

LaBreche said Greystone will be the first CCS location to have an infant play courtyard, and the covered outdoor play area will allow children time outside their classrooms even during inclement weather.

“I have six children myself, and I know children need time outside,” LaBreche said.

Covenant Classical Schools’ Greystone location will provide childcare full-time and year-round, opening at 6:30 a.m. each day.

The facility is planned to open in summer or fall of 2018.

Pre-registration is underway. Those interested can apply, and find more information, at CovenantClassical.com/locations/greystone.

The company received requests for enrollment even before closing on the purchase of the property, LaBreche said.

“We hear from families all the time who wish they could go to CCS but wish it was on this side of town,” she said. “We’re just excited about the opportunity of being involved in this community.”

CCS is also in the process of opening a new location in the Huntsville area, and an infant center at the Homewood location.
