Douglas Ray Satterwhite, age 69, of Shelby, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, Nov. 10.

The visitation will be from 11 a.m. – 12 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 15 at the Columbiana United Methodist Church. The funeral service will follow at 12 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 15 at the church with Rev. Buster Timmons and James Pearson officiating. Burial will follow at Midway Cemetery in Adamsville. Bolton Funeral Home is directing.

Ray was a loving husband, father, and grandfather and enjoyed being with family and always put everyone else before himself. Ray was a member of the Columbiana United Methodist Church. He was active and involved in many school and sports activities with his grandsons, who brought him so much joy over the years.

Ray was employed with AllStates Consulting Services and was contracting with Southern Company as a structural engineer before he became sick. He previously worked with other engineering firms over his lifespan and met so many friends and coworkers as he moved around to different companies and states in his career.

Mr. Satterwhite is preceded in death by his parents, Jimmy and Hazel Satterwhite of Adamsville; sisters, Gayle Bottenfield (Kent) of Charlotte, North Carolina and Jean Thompson (Jimmy) of Adamsville; and his loving son, Kerry Ray Satterwhite of Wilsonville.

He is survived by his loving wife, Shirley Satterwhite; daughter, Kendra Smith (Tony); grandsons, Landon Lowery, Brayton Lowery, and Daviston Smith; brother, Leslie Satterwhite (Barbara); and many nieces, nephews, and friends.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.
