Man charged with Bernie’s burglary

COLUMBIANA – A Columbiana man has been arrested and charged with theft of property in the second degree and burglary in the third degree after he allegedly stole from a local business.

Dannie Harley Brackett Jr., 44, who lists an address on North Main Street, was arrested by the Columbiana Police Department on Thursday, Nov. 16, after he allegedly unlawfully entered the Columbiana restaurant Bernie’s on Main Street while the building was unoccupied and stole $1,500 on Monday, Nov. 6.

Second-degree theft of property and third-degree burglary are both Class C felonies. If he is convicted, Brackett could face up to 10 years in prison and owe up to $15,000 in fines.

Brackett is currently being held at the Shelby County Jail on bonds totaling $10,000. His case was assigned to Shelby County District Court Judge Daniel A. Crowson. A preliminary hearing has been set for 8:30 a.m. on Dec. 6.
