COLUMBIANA – A Talladega man who formerly listed an address in Alabaster was recently indicted by a grand jury on one charge of arson in the first degree, one count of reckless endangerment and one count of possession of marijuana in the first degree.

Larry Larue Davis, 37, who currently lists an address at a corrections facility in Talladega, was initially arrested on July 17, 2013, three years after an incident involving an Alabaster house fire in 2010.

Court documents allege that Davis intentionally damaged someone’s residential property “by starting or maintaining a fire or causing an explosion” while the owner and another person were at the residence on Oct. 9, 2010. Davis’s reckless endangerment charge stemmed from the same Oct. 2010 incident where he set fire to the property, which posed “a substantial risk of serious physical injury” to another person. Both of these charges were issued by the Alabaster Police Department.

“He was living with someone, and they had gotten into an argument,” APD Lt. Grant Humphries said. “He left the residence and set it on fire before he left.”

He was also found unlawfully in possession of marijuana “for other than personal use” on that day. The possession of marijuana charge was issued by the Shelby County Drug Enforcement Task Force.

First-degree arson is a Class A felony. If convicted, Davis could face 10 years to life in prison and owe up to $60,000 in fines. First-degree possession of marijuana is a Class C felony, which could result in up to 10 years in prison. Reckless endangerment is a Class A misdemeanor. Davis’s arraignment is set for Jan. 8, 2018.

Davis is currently being held at the Federal Corrections Institution in Talladega on unrelated charges. His release date from FCI is listed as Aug. 20, 2018.
