COLUMBIANA – Columbiana resident Michelle Barclay celebrated the recent opening of her new business, the Design Bar, at a ribbon cutting ceremony hosted by the South Shelby Chamber of Commerce at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 29.

Barclay referred to the Design Bar as an “art studio meets retail space” type of business that sells gifts and hosts small events.

“We do art. We make personalized gifts and host workshops,” Barclay said. “It’s more of a creative space than anything else.”

For Barclay, opening the Design Bar is big accomplishment. She said she has loved art for as long as she can remember, but was on a different career path until recently.

“I was in the corporate world for a while and I didn’t like it,” Barclay said. “I had been doing an Etsy store for a few years, but this gives me even more of an opportunity to do what I love.”

The Design Bar officially opened to the public in mid-September, and Barclay said business has been more and more steady. In early 2018, Barclay said she plans for the Design Bar to begin hosting birthday parties and more small gatherings.

The Design Bar is located on 113 North Main Street in Columbiana and is open Tuesday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. For more information, visit the Desin Bar’s Facebook page or call 447-1234.
