Miriam Denise Smith, age 61, of Wilsonville, went home to be with her Lord Wednesday, Dec. 6.

The visitation will be from 1-2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 9 at the Wilsonville Baptist Church. The funeral service will follow Saturday, Dec. 9 at 2 p.m. at the church with Rev. Steve Thomas and Rev. Marlin Smith officiating. Burial will follow at Wilsonville City Cemetery. Bolton Funeral Home is directing.

Ms. Smith was a life-long resident of Wilsonville and faithful member of Wilsonville Baptist Church. Miriam was a graduate of Shelby County High School and held degrees from Samford University and the University of Montevallo. She made a career counseling and helping others in need.

She will be remembered most for her love and devotion to family, selfless generosity and for sacrificially placing the needs of others above her own. She will be missed by everyone who knew her.

Ms. Smith is preceded in death by her father, Oland D. Smith, and her mother, Maggie Powell Smith.

She is survived by her daughter, Rebecca Martinez (Cary) of Calera; son, Jonathan Alexander of Peru; grandchildren, Olivia and Ian Martinez; brother, Rev. Marlin D. Smith of Wilsonville; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.
