CHELSEA – The city of Chelsea unanimously passed a resolution to accept a bid for a 60-kilowatt gas generator to be installed at the Chelsea Fire and Rescue Station 32 at a regularly scheduled council meeting on Tuesday, Dec. 19.

According to Mayor Tony Picklesimer, it has been years since the station has had a working power generator. He said the resolution will add a much-needed safety boost for residents near station 32 in the case of a natural disaster.

“In a natural disaster, it will allow our station to have power and be a beacon to those who live in that part of the community,” Picklesimer said.

Until recently, he said he was unaware that the station was lacking a functional power generator and saw the need for one.

“It was just brought to my attention that there wasn’t anything operating there if there was a tornado or something else,” Picklesimer said. “We need to have power over here in case something happens.”

While the $23,702 generator is well within the city’s budget, Picklesimer said it is important for the city to be open about how it allocates funds.
