PELHAM – The Pelham City Council will hold a public hearing on Jan. 4, 2018 to discuss rezoning 4.85 acres of land at the request of the Pelham Board of Education.

The public hearing will take place at Pelham City Hall in the Council Chambers at 7 p.m. The council will be discussing Ordinance No. 135-215, an amendment to the zone district boundaries of the city, changing the present zoning A-1 Agricultural District to R-1 Residential District. The 4.85-acre property is located on Shelby County 33.

Rezoning the land would allow the city to construct a connector road in the area of U.S. 31 and Shelby County 33 to Pelham Oaks Elementary School.

Board of Education President Rick Rhoades said a connector road would make it much easier to get from school to school and open up the possibilities for new business in the area.

“This would greatly change the travel distance to all of our schools,” Rhoades said. “This is an important one to get done.”
