ALABASTER – The city of Alabaster is set to begin its municipal garbage service on Jan. 2, and will run a day behind normal schedule before beginning regular pickup days the following week.

The city’s former garbage service provider, Advance Disposal, was set to pick up its garbage and recycling bins the week of Dec. 25-29. Because of the Christmas holiday, Advance is running one day behind its normal schedule during the final week of 2017.

According to the Alabaster Public Works Department, it has delivered city garbage and recycling bins to city residences. The new city of Alabaster trash carts are all-blue, while the recycling carts are blue with a green lid.

Alabaster leaders are asking residents to not use the new carts until the first week of 2018.

Beginning on Jan. 2, only official Alabaster trash and recycling carts will be serviced. Because Jan. 1 is a holiday, the first week of Alabaster’s trash service will run a day behind normal schedule.

When the city service begins, monthly residential garbage collection rates will not change from their current number of $15.27. Commercial and non-residential customers will pay $30.54 per month.

The city garbage service will not serve Alabaster’s seven mobile home parks, the City Council recently announced.

Once the city service starts, crews will pick up on the following days:
