PELHAM – A ribbon cutting will be held for Pelham’s newly built recreation center on Friday, Jan. 5 at 5:45 p.m.

City Council President Rick Hayes said residents will have an opportunity to tour the 38,000-square-foot facility after the ribbon cutting.

“The facility will start being put to use that same day,” Hayes said. “We have basketball games scheduled that evening starting at 6:30 p.m.”

During the month of January, Hayes said the facility will be completely free to use. This means that residents will be able to utilize the exercise equipment, indoor track and basketball courts for free.

“We want to give people a chance to check it out and see what all we have to offer,” Hayes said.

This offer does not include the exercise classes offered at the facility.

Hours of operation for the rec center will be 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Friday and 1-6 p.m. on Sundays.

The cost of membership is $10 per month for one person and $20 per month for a family. There isn’t a cap on the number of people that can be included in a family membership.

Residents will receive a discount if they pay for a yearlong membership upfront. Instead of $120 for yearlong single membership, residents will pay $100, and $200 instead of $240 for a yearlong family membership.

Initially, membership will be reserved for Pelham residents only.

However, the membership will not cover the cost of exercise classes. Nonmembers and those who do not reside in Pelham will be allowed to pay for and attend exercise classes.
